American Village Parking Guide

There is no monorail to Chatan, so almost everyone arrives by car. Where to park is one of the most important parts of planning a visit. Here is how parking works around American Village.

Parking is a mix of free and paid

American Village has several parking lots, a mix of free and paid/time-based. There is no single big lot — parking is split up by block and by facility. Fee structures vary by location and can change, so always check the signage at the lot you use.

Where to park for free

If you are shopping or eating, facilities with free customer parking are convenient — large shopping centers in the Mihama and Hanby areas have their own parking. You can park at one of these and walk into the heart of American Village from there.

The busiest times

• Weekend afternoons and evenings are the busiest all year.
• Around sunset, the lots closest to the beach fill up first. If you are coming for the sunset, arrive with time to spare.
• During events, the main road (Route 58) can also get congested.

Tips for parking smoothly

1. Come a little early, especially on weekends and before sunset — aim to arrive 30–60 minutes ahead.
2. Check the lots one block inland. Even when the popular seaside lots are full, blocks slightly inland may have space — and it is a short walk.
3. Do your shopping at a big store and use it as a base to walk from, so you only park once.
4. Always read the fee signs. "First X hours free" or "discount with purchase" conditions differ by lot.
