Chatan Beach Guide

Chatan's coast has several beaches, each with its own character. Beyond just swimming — watching the sunset, playing with kids, diving, or simply gazing at the sea — the best spot depends on what you want to do. Here is how to choose.

For the sunset — Chatan Park Sunset Beach (Mihama)

Right next to American Village, Sunset Beach is Chatan's signature sunset spot, easy to combine with shopping and dinner. Swimming seasons and hours change with the season, so check ahead if you plan to swim. See the sunset guide for timing.

For families & beach play — Araha Beach

South of Mihama, Araha Park has a big ship-shaped playground, wide lawns, and a beach right next door — a favorite with families. You get playground fun and the sea in one place. It is also a nice spot to stroll along the shore while waiting for dusk.

For diving & snorkeling — Sunabe (Miyagi Coast)

A little north, the Sunabe seawall is one of Okinawa's well-known diving and snorkeling areas, with ocean-view cafes along it. Note that it is not a groomed swimming beach — do any water activities through a dive shop and follow their rules. It is also a beautiful spot for sunset.
