Chatan with Kids

Chatan is easy to visit with children: it is car-friendly and has plenty of indoor options. Combine a playground, a beach, and some indoor time, and the whole family can enjoy a full day.

Play at Araha Park

South of Mihama, Araha Park has a large ship-shaped playground and wide lawns, with a beach right next door — so kids get both playground fun and the sea. If you are visiting with children, this is a great place to build your plan around.

Beach time

Sunset Beach sits right beside American Village, so it is easy to combine with shopping and meals, and you can enjoy the sunset in the evening. When playing at the beach, watch out for the strong sun, stay hydrated, and take your trash home. See the beach guide for the different beaches.

Indoors for hot afternoons & rainy days

When the weather turns or the midday heat peaks, head indoors. The large shopping centers in Mihama and Hanby are good for meals, breaks, and picking up baby supplies, and American Village has a cinema. See the visitor FAQ for rainy-day tips.

Tips for visiting with kids

• Park once and walk. The center of Mihama is walkable, so park and explore on foot (see the parking guide).
• Know where the restrooms and rest areas are. Large stores and parks have them.
• Alternate indoors and outdoors. Playground → beach → indoor break keeps everyone comfortable.
